Perfect day in the park.

This past Saturday, Gavin and I had a date at City Park.  The weather was PERFECT, and I was so happy to be outside with my favorite boy.  Gavin was so excited about going.  We started at the play ground until the park opened, and he was already having fun.  Once we got inside the park, he ran to the dump trucks.  Gavin rode this twice in a row.  Next, he ran to the cars.  He rode the blue jeep twice.  It is so funny to watch him ride because you would never think he was having fun.  He is all business.  No smiling.  Minimal waving because he has to keep both hands on the steering wheel.  He managed to lighten up on the train and the carousel...maybe because someone else was driving.  He also had fun on his last ride of the day.  He ran to the pink jeep, and another little boy jumped in the back.  Gavin seemed a lot more relaxed, maybe because of his co-pilot.

We stopped very briefly at Story land, and he got to drive the fire truck.  I think we'll stop there first next time...

All by himself.

Two hands on the wheel!

Much more relaxed....but still keeping two hands on the wheel.

Busy weekend...

This past weekend was a busy one! Friday morning started not so fun with a doctor's appointment-Gavin's 3 year old appointment.  Luckily, he didn't have to get any shots.  After nap, we met Na Na, Paw Paw Howard and Sara at the aquarium.  Gavin and Sara had so much fun!  They held hands and ran around all afternoon.

A classic picture inside the giant jaws!

This is a new exhibit they have at the aquarium.  You walk into this outside "room" filled with parakeets.  You can purchase a stick of food for $1.  These birds have no fear and will fly right onto your arm to eat, literally, out of you hand.  So cool!  Gavin loved it!  Sara? Not so much!

We ended the day by letting the kids run around outside for a bit to burn off the ice cream and chips we had as a snack.  The weather was amazing!  We walked to the River Walk for dinner in the food court.  Great day!

Saturday morning, we woke up for a family outing.  Later that night, Ma Maw and Joshy Poo came over to babysit while Gina, Danny, Gary and I went to dinner out in the Marigny at a place called Adolfo's.  It definitely is an interesting part of town, to say the least.  Dinner was great and so was the company.  We got a really pleasant surprise when a St. Patrick's Day parade rolled right down Frenchmen.  We got to watch some of it from the window of the restaurant, and, after dinner, we stood around and watched it for a little while.  Fun stuff. But, we had to hurry home before Ma Maw turned into a pumpkin. ;)

Sunday, we had a birthday party for Gavin's other best friend, Mason (Sara is also his best friend).  It was at the Monkey Room, a place we know all about!  Gavin's favorite part was the bounce house.  He had a blast, although I think he is a liar.  Daddy seems to be his best friend of all...he wanted him to play with him the whole time.

Sunday night ended with family dinner.  The whole crew came over for Thanksgiving feast!  Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, peas, mac n cheese, cranberry sauce, biscuits and my favorite...cheesecake. :)  My new thing for family gatherings is dessert.  I love to bake and now I have a bigger group (instead of just me and Gary) to bake for.  It looked purdy and tasted pretty good too!  Already wondering what I'm going to make for next week!

Gavin really does love having his family around.  He talked all night about how much fun he had and how he really missed everybody.  We'll do it again next weekend!

April is a pretty busy month with lots of fun stuff planned.  Then, before we know it, summer will be here and so will the new baby!

Boys vs Girls

Lately, Gavin has developed an opinion that boys and girls like different things (based solely on the things that he and I prefer.) Here are a few:

Boys like to drink milk. Girls like to drink water.

Boys like to use spoons.  Girls like to use forks.

Boys like to wash their hands with cold water.  Girls like hot water.

Boys like to eat dinner.  Girls like to eat snacks (tee hee).  He stuck by this until I said, "Oh yes.  I do like snacks.  Chocolate is my favorite!"  His face lit up and he said, "Oh! I like chocolate too!  Can I have my own when we get home?!"  Ha!  Everyone likes snacks...

Gavin Gabs...

I'm totally stealing the concept of this title from my beautiful friend Erica and her blog, "Saylor says".  Gavin has become so cute and funny with the things he says, and I want to keep a record of it.  He makes me laugh out loud daily, and I'm so sad I can't remember everything.  Hopefully, having a kitchy name for a reoccurring blog will inspire me to document better.  Here are some of the things I can remember at the moment.
When he announces he's going to the bathroom, "I gotta go pee pee...peace out fool."

The other day he and grandma went to the pantry for a snack.  Apparently, she was distracted by her phone and not paying attention to him.  I heard, "Grandma, Focus!"

While I was driving, "Mommy, two hands on the wheel!"

While we were practicing counting on my fingers...Me: "1, 2, 3. 4. 5 fingers" Gavin: "Actually, mommy, that is a thumb" (pointing at my thumb).

He still says: "Out-ides" for outside.

He uses words like: "next later", "next year", and "last day" to describe time.

When asking him to do something: "Um...sure." or "You got it, Momma!"

Sweet boy...

He now wakes up in the morning, gets out of bed, takes his pull up off, and pees before he comes downstairs for the morning.

When my cast was on: "Momma, I can't wait till your hand is better so you can hold me"
